From Style Encyclopedia
The aim of Style Encyclopedia is to educate and to democratize fashion and style knowledge. Consequently, the text information and some of the image information on this site is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License for you to add, edit, copy and re-use, subject to the following conditions and exceptions:

[edit] Site text
All text on this site is licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License.
[edit] Content contributions
Content that you contribute must be your own work or work that you have a license to re-use. Content that you contribute will become public domain. You must not contribute content that you do not own or for which you do not have a license.
The only exception is brief quotes of copyrighted materials, as below.
[edit] Use of copyrighted material
The only exception to the rules above, is that fair use provisions allow you to use brief quotes from copyrighted materials for the purposes of education or criticism, so long as the author and source are acknowledged.
In practice, that means you can quote almost anything, so long as the quote is brief and topical, and you cite both the author and the publication in which it appeared.
Copyrighted works that are quoted in this manner are still owned by the copyright holder.
[edit] Credit for your work
Your authorship will be acknowledged in the Page History tab, which will show content contributed under your User ID.
If you permit us to reproduce a whole work as the basis of a page, you may place a link at the top of the page which states the name and original authorship of the article.
If you are among the top 5 contributors to a page (measured by the amount of text you added), you will receive further acknowledgment as one of the main contributors.
[edit] Content re-use
Style Encyclopedia content is available free for commercial and non-commercial re-use and re-publication, subject to the following conditions:
- You must acknowledge Style Encyclopedia as the source of the content, with a clear statement that the content has been re-used from Style Encyclopedia.
- In online publications, you must link back to the Style Encyclopedia page from which you got the content.
- In printed material, you must cite the URL where you found the content.
- Where applicable, you must acknowledge authorship of the top-5 contributors to the page by using the Find Authors tool that we will add shortly.
Please note that this applies to the text of SE only; images and other file formats may be licensed under different conditions.
[edit] Site images
The specific combination of Copyright conditions vary from image to image. You must check each image you wish to use to see which licensing conditions apply.
Images on the site fall into one of the following three categories, and you must observe the rules that apply to each category of image:
[edit] Creative Commons
Many of the images on the site are licensed under Creative Commons, in which case the owners of the images have reserved some of their rights. If you wish to edit or re-use an image, you must first click on the image and down to see the licensing conditions.
In particular, image creators may stipulate any or all of the following conditions in a Creative Commons license:
- Attribution. That the image must be attributed to them.
- Non-Commercial. Many image creators have stipulated that their work may not be used for commercial purposes. That means if you're a non-profit or community group, you are welcome to use the image. But if you are a business, you need to contact the creator directly to arrange a licence, and they may charge you a licence fee to use the image.
- No Derivatives. Some image creators have stipulated that derivative works may not be created. Where this is the case, you must use the image exactly as shown and cannot alter the image in any way.
- Share Alike. Where content creators do allow derivative works to be made, they may stipulate that any works created using their images be licenced under the same conditions as that which they granted to you.
[edit] Public Domain Images
Some image creators have elected to make their work public domain, in which case you can add, edit, copy and re-use the image as you wish.
Images for which copyright has expired are also in the public domain, and may be used as above.
[edit] Copyright Images
Some images on Style Encyclopedia are Copyright, but are available for us to use as an educational publication under the Fair Use provisions of Copyright law in the USA and elsewhere. You may not use Copyright images unless you also satisfy the Fair Use provisions of Copyright in your jurisdiction.
