While there are many ways to apply eye shadow, a more natural look can be achieved by simply emphasizing the natural shadows around the outside curves of the eyes. Close the eye you're working on and feel the shape of it through your eye lid. Apply a darker color around the outer edge and into the upper crease, rather like shading a sphere in a beginning art exercise. Apply a lighter color on the rest of the lid, or a lighter color still on the inner corners in order to make your eyes appear larger and further apart. Should you feel that your eyes look too far apart, you can make them appear closer together by reversing the previous instructions, putting the darker color on the side of the eyelids closest to the nose.
