[edit] How everyone can help
[edit] Edit
- Fix typos: Spotted a spelling mistake? Click the nearest 'edit' link and fix it up!
- Clean imported pages: In order to get quality content up on the Style Encyclopedia from the beginning, we've been importing pages from Wikipedia. While it's perfectly legal and acceptable according to Wikipedia's copyrights, it's a bit messy and we'd love help cleaning up those pages. Fortunately, it's pretty simple. See Wikipedia imports that need cleaning for the list as well as instructions for cleaning.
[edit] Request
- Let us know what you'd like to see: If there's no page on a topic you'd really like to learn about, add it to the Requests list. Got an idea for a great new feature? Go ahead and add it there as well.
[edit] Add content
- Add more info: If you're reading a page and there's information missing, if you know it, please add it. If in doubt, check out these suggestions if you're looking for a general idea of what belongs here on the Style Encyclopedia.
- Add images: We believe that a picture really is worth a thousand words -- or maybe more if it's a really good one. See an article that looks like it could use a picture of some sort? Please help out by adding an appropriate photo or illustration. See Help: How to add images for more details.
- Start 'red' pages: Any time you see a red link, it means that somebody would like to see a page about that topic. If you know anything about the topic -- or have even seen a good article about it -- please help us by starting the page. Or, pick a topic from the Wanted pages list. Even if it's just a sentence or three, it's still much better than nothing. See How to write a wiki article for more info.
- Write a requested page: If you'd like to learn a lot about a topic that's on the Requests list, researching and writing an article about it will certainly teach you!
- Create a local guide: Know where to shop in your area? Know what's popular there? Tell the world!
[edit] How photographers can help: amateur, budding or pro
If you've taken a photo that would make an article more interesting -- and you're willing to make it available to us under a Wikipedia: Creative Commons license so we can use it for free -- your contribution would help Style Encyclopedia a great deal. You will remain credited as the creator of the image, and Creative Commons material is often widely distributed.
[edit] How bloggers can help
Bloggers can help us in a number of ways:
[edit] Link to our pages
If you find a Style Encyclopedia page that your readers would find interesting -- or one that they could easily re-write to a much higher standard - please link to it!
Style Encyclopedia is a free, Open Source project to make fashion and style info available to all, so your support is greatly appreciated.
[edit] Use our material
Style Encyclopedia is freely available for all to use: the text is licensed under GFDL and most images are available under Creative Commons licenses.
That means you're welcome to use material here on your own site: all we ask in return is a link back to our page(s) that the material came from.
(But please note: not all images have Creative Commons licenses, please do not use the images we use under 'fair use' provisions in commercial publications that aren't educational in nature; that would be naughty and illegal.)
[edit] Donate an article; get a permanent link
Have you written an informative and well-researched article on an important style topic? Is that topic missing (or poorly covered) from Style Encyclopedia?
If you're willing to make your article available to everyone in Style Encyclopedia (under GFDL), we will acknowledge you as the original author of the article with a permanent link back to your original article.
[edit] How fashion 'insiders' can help
If you're a fashion insider, we invite you to become a member of our community.
One of the reasons we are separate from Wikipedia, is because fashion is a business and often the people who know the most about any product or topic have a commercial interest in it.
Here you are welcome to write about your area of expertise, and even yourself. We ask just three things:
- No PR speak: Style Encyclopedia is a place for factual information, not press releases. If you post hyperbole, it will be edited! ;)
- Reference where possible: It adds to your credibility greatly if you reference published works; it shows that this isn't just the opinion of one expert (you); it's accepted consensus among a group of experts.
- Reveal your identity: We're happy for experts to contribute to Style Encyclopedia, so we like to know who they are! Please use either your name or your company's name as your Style Encyclopedia username, and describe your job and expertise on your user page (linked from your user name). While it does make it clear when you're writing about yourself / your company, it also increases your credibility as an expert contributor.
If you need any help in contributing to Style Encyclopedia, please contact our Community Manager, Meg Taylor.
